Enjoy Your Seasons

"I can't wait to grow up" - always found myself screaming that statement anytime I felt I got unfair treatment from the adults. For some weird reason I always looked forward to growing up - didn't we all?? I was jealous of how the grown ups looked so put together, were enjoying life, calling all the shots & making all the rules :D. I wish someone had knocked some sense into my tiny head that being grown up is much tougher than the perceived 'glamor'. The only part of being grown up that I totally appreciate is the wisdom that came along - I have learnt to enjoy & maximize every season that comes along.

Just as we have four different weather seasons, so do our lives have different seasons - most of the time they are as random as can be and may be more than four. I love the way Ecclesiastes 3:1 breaks the whole idea of seasons down - "There is a season (a time appointed) for everything and a time for every delight and event or purpose under heaven" - {Amp}.

Much as I am on about enjoying your seasons, it is also important that you recognize and understand what season you are in & when the transition happens - 1 Chronicles 12:32 "from Issachar, men who understood the times and knew what Israel should do". Knowing your seasons gives you a clue on exactly what you should do. Having no clue on when the transition happens will leave you with some serious 'hangie', struggling to move on and pick up the pace. Take for instance, Nairobi has been quite cold the last few weeks and in a bid to keep extra warm & avoid catching a nasty flu, I have been over-dressing. Throwing on a warm coat every morning as I left the house was a reflex action that even after it's become warmer, I still found myself leaving the house with a warm coat on :D. Not funny at all, cause I then had to take take it off & carry it around the entire day as it gets really warm - I lost count of the number of times I almost  it in a jav or on a chair somewhere.

Discerning your seasons will also give you a sense of peace & stillness when those around you seem to be progressing at a much faster rate and they keep wondering why you are mark-timing. Jane Clayson says "there are seasons in life, don't let anyone try to deny you the joy of one season because they believe you should stay in another season...listen to yourself, trust your instincts and keep your perspective". The other day I bumped into a former acquaintance and as we were catching up, they kept insisting on finding out if there are any Karshlets. They were shocked I still hadn't gotten to that place & the unnecessary "lecture" that followed made the biological clock blast even louder - not that it hasn't been ticking so loudly of late hehehehe.

Look to God because before you came to be, He knew exactly how your life will be and He holds the seasons in His hands. Psalms 139:15-16 "My frame was not hidden from You, When I was being formed in secret, And intricately and skillfully formed [as if embroidered with many colors] in the depths of the earth. Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written The days that were appointed for me, When as yet there was not one of them [even taking shape]". If you ask God, he will grant you grace in abundance to go through different seasons. Hebrews 4:16 "Therefore let us [with privilege] approach the throne of grace [that is, the throne of God’s gracious favor] with confidence and without fear, so that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find [His amazing] grace to help in time of need [an appropriate blessing, coming just at the right moment]".
