Baby Shower & Other Short Stories

So I had the opportunity together with my business partner to organize and coordinate a Baby Shower for a soon to be mum who is also a good friend. Attending a baby shower as a guest is a totally different ball game from being the one in charge of decor and coordinating the photography so this was a lovely experience. A few photos from the day - mainly decor of which we chose to go with something simple engraved balloons & a banner. A few tips for anyone organizing a Baby Shower that you I found useful: Manage Your Expectations  Baby Showers are generally supposed to be a fun activity but for the mum to be, it may be a bit tiring especially if you hold the shower a few days shy of her EDD. She may not be as involved in the activities of the shower as you may want so be sure to cut her some slack.   Have A Program Treat the shower like any other formal event where you prepare a program and share it with the attendees before hand. This will e...

Made A Way - Travis Greene

Made a way Don't know how but you did it Made a way Standing here not knowing how we'll get through this test But holding onto faith you know best Nothing can catch you by surprise You've got this figured out and you're watching us now But when it looks as if we can't win You wrap us in your arm and step in And everything we need you supply You got this in control And now we know that You made a way When our backs were against the wall And it looked as if it was over You made a way And we're standing here Only because you made a way You made a way Now we're here Looking back on where we come from Because of you and nothing we've done To deserve the love and mercy you've shown But your grace was strong enough to pick us up And you made a way When our backs were against the wall And it looked as if it was over You made a way And we're standing here Only because you made a way [x2] You move mountains You...

Tuesday Inspiration

From when Barrack Obama was sworn into office as the 44th President of the United States of America, Michelle Obama has been a force to reckon with especially matters concerning Women Empowerment. Michelle's recent interview with Oprah Winfrey during the United States of Women Summit has some real nuggets that I hope you will love. Here are some pointers she gave that I identified with - I included some personal notes.   Know Yourself - I love the way Michelle describes getting to know yourself as a woman's first job in life. Trust me, discovering and defining who you are is a full time job. It takes a lot of hard work to fight off stereotypes that have for a long time described women. Discovering yourself is not a one off thing cause as time passes, you mature & grow through different experiences which may challenge and reshape your outlook on life. Take the time to know who you are as a woman - it will be slow, painful and at times the most difficult task you un...

#TBT - Guest Of The State

Once upon a time, I was a guest of the state - albeit for half an hour. It's an experience I wouldn't wish upon my worst of enemies :-). {P.S don't judge me, if it may not be as bad as others' experiences lol}  Kanjo pipos pounced on us on a lazy & sunny Friday afternoon while we were happily distributing brochures for the college I worked for as a Computer Lab Assistant in Westlands. It was during my initial months at the college & since I was pretty much still on probation, any extra duties done definitely earned me Bonga Points. So when my colleagues from Front Office floated the idea of tagging along for the brochure distribution I gladly obliged. Most Friday afternoons were not as busy in the Comp Lab, so I embraced the idea cause then I could kill two birds with one stone - earn bonga points and kill boredom LOL. We picked as many brochures as we could and off we went chatting animatedly as we smiled and gave them to passers by. Two of us were freshe...

#ManTalk

I love me a good read so when I got my hands on Steve Harvey's Straight Talk, No Chaser I couldn't put it down and I love the insights Harvey shares.   If you enjoyed reading Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man, then I assure you, you will love Straight Talk. Harvey gives us some awesome wisdom on the male species. I felt compelled to share some of the excerpts in this book that young men and women of this X/Y generation need to hear on matters marriage/love. I am a strong believer that God is raising Himself a remnant of young people who will choose to take a stand and declare that despite and in spite of all the negativity surrounding the institution, we will make it work. Since I'm still reading it, this will be an ongoing post - well at least till I get to the last page :-). Here goes my maiden attempt at #ManTalk with the help of Harvey of course. Enjoy. Learn How To Be A Man  because getting into marriage without truly discovering & embracing who you are as a...

#MidYearTings

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Happy New Month :-). We've hit the Mid-Year mark, how awesome is that? *Doing A  Happy King Julian Dance*. This far Jehovah has been faithful.  Just a few more months and we bid 2016 kwaheri. How fast time flies, right!! If you haven't reviewed your New Year's resolutions to see if you are following them through, now would be a good time to do so. Review and make necessary adjustments and try break them into tiny doable chunks. Thing is, I personally do not believe in this hullabaloo of making New Year's resolutions.....I'd rather take one day at a time than waste precious time writing a long list of promises, do's, don'ts and whatever else resolutions entail. I prefer making practical & step by step achievable goals which I can review at the end of the day and make necessary adjustments when need be. So far, so good, I'm loving 2016 and embracing the true YOLO spirit.   How about I do a review of some of t...
