So I had the opportunity together with my business partner to organize and coordinate a Baby Shower for a soon to be mum who is also a good friend. Attending a baby shower as a guest is a totally different ball game from being the one in charge of decor and coordinating the photography so this was a lovely experience. A few photos from the day - mainly decor of which we chose to go with something simple engraved balloons & a banner.
A few tips for anyone organizing a Baby Shower that you I found useful:
Manage Your Expectations
Baby Showers are generally supposed to be a fun activity but for the mum to be, it may be a bit tiring especially if you hold the shower a few days shy of her EDD. She may not be as involved in the activities of the shower as you may want so be sure to cut her some slack.
Have A Program
Treat the shower like any other formal event where you prepare a program and share it with the attendees before hand. This will ensure that the shower runs smoothly and will begin and end on time. Thing with not having a program is you may have gaps in between where you start looking around asking each other - "so what is next??". This can be very unnerving for an almost due mum - I hear they get irritable real quick when they are almost popping :-).
Make It Interesting
It is always good to do as much research as you can to ensure that you have a fun and interesting baby shower. Make it a memorable event for the mum-to-be, trust me she will be eternally grateful that you went out of your way to make sure she had fun as she approached her due date. There are so many games that can make your shower interesting and lively. Here are just some of the games I've played and found them nice:
The mum-to-be would appreciate any good piece of advice from those who have already been there especially if she is a first time mum. It would be nice to incorporate mums in your guest list and give them ample time in your program to talk to the mum-to-be. It makes a whole lot of difference when you have someone who has already been there assuring you that there is nothing to worry about.

- Guess the tummy size - have every attendee pull yarn to a size they believe would fit perfectly around the mum-to-be's tummy. After everyone has cut their strings, compare it with the actual size and the one with the closest gets to win a prize.
- Baby's first portrait - pass around a plain paper and a marker. Have everyone hold the paper to their head and draw what they think the baby would like. The best drawing & worst drawing gets to win a prize.
- Naming Baby Items - give everyone a plain paper and pen. Let them try and write down as many baby items as they can. You can also get a Word Grid Puzzle online and let everyone try to find as many baby items as they can. The one with the most gets a prize.
- Diaper Derby - divide those attending into two groups and hand each group a roll of tissue paper. Give the team at least 5 minutes to wrap a team member in a mock diaper. The team with the most creatively diapered "baby" wins.
- Baby Food Game - Test your taste buds with a baby food guessing marathon. The person who guesses the most correct gets to win a prize.
