Matthew 5:16 "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven".
Growing up, any time I would have a bad/scary dream or a nightmare I would instinctively jump out of bed and flip the switch to put on the lights. I would then take a deep breath - whoosah - and somehow there was such an assurance "relax Karsh, you're safe". I kinda still do that now and it's interesting how I manage to get to the switch in a millisecond even right in the middle of very deep sleep. My mind is assured that once the lights come on, everything's good.
As born again believers in a seemingly dark world where there is so much happening that is discouraging, frightening and most of all, the uncertainty that always looms, we are called to shine our lights so bright and give light to all who come into contact with us. Matthew 5:14-15 "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp stand and it gives light to all who are in the house". When we encounter seasons like the one we are right now - the Covid 19 pandemic, the locusts invasion that could potentially result in food insecurity for millions & much more - it is such an opportune time for believers to arise and let their lights shine by speaking life. It's not time to cower and blend into the multitudes spelling doom as if we have no hope cause we do. Romans 5:5 "Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us". Refuse to dim your light to blend into the darkness cause it seems like the easy way out.
Difficult as it may be to let your light shine in a dark and hurting world, Christ gave us an assurance that we do not have to fear cause He is the source of the light. We do not have to struggle to keep our lights shinning. It is very easy to get derailed if you depend on your strengths & abilities. I can attest that at times I do feel discouraged and wonder if there really is any point in standing out and being a voice of hope in a hopeless situation. Especially when everything just seems to be going wrong with no relief in sight. Be encouraged, as long as you stay connected to Christ, your light will always shine bright. John 8:12 "Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life".
Have confidence that Christ in you the hope of glory gives you the legal right and you can stand as a child of the light and spread His love & hope. Sometimes I personally doubt if I even have the capacity to represent Him given my ways before salvation. There is always that whisper questioning my resolve but I choose to wholly believe in and also encourage you with Ephesians 5:8-9 "For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth) finding out what is acceptable to the Lord."
As long as you are in Christ, daily walking with Him and actively pursuing your relationship then I can assure you that you are a child of the light and it is your duty to let your light shine. As you let your light shine, point people to Jesus, let Him receive the glory. Speak life. Speak hope. Encourage.
Be a good ambassador of Christ.
Father in heaven thank you for this week's reminder. That in a dark and hurting world, we as the children of the light need to let out lights shine before men. I pray that you may hold our hands, illuminate us that we may be able to share your hope and share the faith that is needed even as we go through difficult circumstances. With everything that is going on, Lord we choose to trust in you and as children of the light, may You give us the confidence to let our lights shine so that we may give hope and give light to all who come into contact with us. We confess that we will not fear, we choose to put our trust in you and we know that this too shall pass. In Jesus Mighty Name we pray. Amen.
