Nairobi has for the last few years become synonymous with traffic jam and if you are a frequent Jav user you are ever so familiar with how impatient drivers & touts are to get from point A to point B. These guys have mastered with precision the various available "panya" routes to beat the traffic much to the charging of passengers. Countless number of times I've been in a jav where passengers esp. elderly women complain when the driver takes a detour to the "panya" routes. I figure they whine a lot because more often than not, the "panya" routes are murram roads - dusty and very uncomfortable & if you happen to panda a "nganya" & sit at the back seat you are in for a very veeeeeeeeeery rough ride. Usually, the tout ignores the whining and once the complainer realizes they are getting nowhere with their outburst, they quietly settle down. Today's early morning incident on my way to the grind was different, it got me thinking and voila - brought forth this post.
When the driver took a detour to the kawaida "panya" route, a lady from the back of the jav started shouting and complaining of how they will waste time since the road ahead did not look like it had much traffic and as usual the tout was quiet but couldn't hold back anymore when the lady insulted him. I was very impressed with the tout because away from the usual rough & unprintable responses, he calmly explained to the lady why they detoured - the driver had gotten call from a jav ahead of him telling him its gridlocked so he needs to avoid passing through there. I hope you are still with me :-), don't get lost, I'm just about to delve into God's Got It.....the foundation is important I had to lay it well lol.
How many times have you found yourself complaining about the direction God is taking you? It could be that it is way out of what you would consider your kawaida routine or maybe it yanks you out of your comfort zone & stretches you completely. I'm guilty of whining and throwing tantrums anytime God throws a curve ball my way but I somehow buckle up and find comfort in Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope". Common verse ain't it? You've heard it many times over right? Much as that may be, do you ever meditate on it, think of how profound it is & let it sink in? In simple terms, it just screams GOD'S GOT IT - RELAX.
Not convinced yet, how about Psalms 139:15-16 "My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be". For you, it may catch you by surprise but guess what for Big Guy up there....He set it that way. Most times we {I included} rely on perceived self confidence and self assurance that we have it all figured out.
Just the way the tout stays quiet even with all the ranting from passengers, our Heavenly Father quietly watches us when we throw our tantrums. He knows exactly how He has planned our lives and even with the constant tantrums and nagging of why things are not going exactly how we want them to, He stays quiet and watches us carefully never letting us go. Other times, He may reveal His reasons for taking you on that detour.
How about I challenge you
to allow yourself the luxury of letting God handle it. Quit worrying
about the bumps & potholes along the way, God's Got It!
J Moss captures it well in this jam, bump your head along as you make that confession:
I ain't gonna worry bout the money in the bank {I ain't worried bout it}
I ain't gonna worry bout the gas in the tank {I know who supplies my needs},
I ain't gonna worry bout the things I can't control {For God is in control}
I ain't gonna worry bout' it, all I do is pray about it, hold up, why?
God's got it.
God's got it.
