Happy Holidays

Christmas is finally here with us. Wishing us all a Merry Christmas and a Blessed 2017. May we find joy and happiness during this festive season and may the love of the Lord warm our hearts.

Akutendee Nini - {What Can God Do You For You}?

Tanzanian Songbird Christina Shusho has a new jam out and as per the standards she has set before, it is smoking hot. I love the song and since it has been on replay, it got me thinking about a couple of things I wanna share on. First though, kindly ponder on this - do you sometimes feel guilty asking God for stuff; or are you like the guy at the beginning of the video who has no idea what He wants God to do for Him; or are you probably like the cripple by the pool of Bethesda who gave excuses when Christ asked him a simple question - do you want to get well? Too Scared To Ask: I must admit, when I was still young in salvation I used to feel too guilty to ask God for stuff. I always had this thought at the back of my mind that I was reducing God to an 'ATM' - "Oh Lord I want this & that & that & don't forget that too" :-). I assumed that since God is an all knowing God and He already knows what I want, no reason to bombard Him with requests ca...

Gratitude Marathon

2017 here I come. Before I get to you though, I wanna look back at 2016 and just thank God for the year that has been. It has been a cocktail of so many things but one thing I can say to sum it all up, God has kept me.                                           So I'm here today because God kept me, I'm alive today only because of His grace,  Oh He kept me, God kept me,  He kept me, So I wouldn't let go Thought I'd do a random post on what I am grateful for and hope it encourages you to for a moment just raise a prayer of thanksgiving. No matter how tough things have been in 2016, look up to Jesus and say thank you. Psalms 106:1 "Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. For His mercy and loving kindness endure forever". Anytime I felt like I was on the edge and I was about to lose my mind, the Holy Spirit would minster this verse - Isaiah 41:10 " D...

December

It is December :-) :-)  :-)  :-)  :-) *Does Back Flip*. I cannot hide my excitement that we are finally in December. This is by far my best month - for many reasons. Other than the fact that December is my Birth-Month, it is also the month that we get to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. *Cues Music* - Tis the Season To Be Jolly Fa la la la la la

November :-)

November is here with us. Happy New Month :-). Exactly 60 days before we say kwaheri to 2016. Time has gone by so fast, it was just the other day I was toasting to a New Year and now I am almost bidding it kwaheri. *Feeling Nostalgic*. As we count down to 2017, I can't help but think of how 2016 has been a cocktail - mountain & valley experiences in equal measure but Jehovah has been faithful. Can't help but sing along to Lynda Randle's God on the Mountain.

Coke Studio - Sauti Sol

Sauti Sol bagged the Best Group award at the MTV Africa Music Awards and are clearly a force to reckon with and with the way they are doing their stuff so professionally, you can be sure the sky ain't the limit for them. Epic milestone. They are clearly emerging as my favorite in this year's Coke Studio. This jam with the Red Fourth Chorus from Upperhill is for goosebumps. *Sings Along*  Wewe ndio nategemea, kufa kupona Baba nakutegemea,  Chochote kitanikatsia kuinigia mbinguni utaniondolea

You've Gotta Jump

Ever had one of those days where you wake up questioning everything? I'm having one of those. I'm questioning the choices I've made. The opportunities I've let pass cause I felt they weren't a good fit but I get inundated with regret. The dreams I keep chasing but can't seem to catch a break cause they look so far fetched. Basically wondering what would happen if I just settle. On the flip side though, a Still Small Voice keeps whispering encouragement - keep going, you're on the right track. "I feel myself becoming the fearless person I have dreamt of being. Have I arrived? No. But I'm constantly evolving and challenging myself to be unafraid to make mistakes", Janelle Monae. If you are in a similar space, I pray that you trust the process and keep walking no matter how afraid you feel. You are definitely on the right path. Also, some inspiration from the one and only Steve Harvey. Couple of Nuggets from the video: You event...

Coke Studio

Coke Studio 2016  kicked off this past weekend and I must say I'm loving it already. Last year, Juliana and Flavor were definitely my favorite & I was thrilled that their mash ups made it to the compilation Album. I'm yet to experience some hair raising mash ups but Sauti Sol are the artists to watch going by their turn up. Keep it here for more #CokeStudioManenos.

Wedding Season - I/She Said Yes

Boy meets girl, boy likes girl & drops smooth lines. After what  seems like an eternity & lots of hard work, girl decides to give boy a chance and soon they are inseparable. Numerous coffee/lunch/dinner dates later & evening walks in the park, boy is convinced that he has finally found his Proverbs 31 lady love and makes elaborate plans to put a ring on it before someone else beats him to the finger. Boy plans a romantic getaway, summons all the courage he has, goes on his knee, utters some sweet words and pops the question :-). Smitten and completely taken by surprise, girl says yes amidst sobs.  Girl is over the moon and can't wait to share the great news with family and friends. Over the next few weeks, congratulatory messages flood in with everyone wishing the newly engaged couple an awesome journey ahead. Once the excitement cools off, the couple realize they need to get down to business - make solid plans for their big day. Where to start? I w...

Wedding Season's Here :-)

I looooove weddings!!!!!!!!! #Yaaaaaaaaaaas :-).  If  I was bold, I would be a #ProfessionalWeddingCrasher LOL. We all know aside from the great food, delicious cake & endless dancing, ain't no paycheck gonna come through from this "profession" so I figured why not make profitable use of this unquenchable love for weddings. As a side hustle, I jumped onto the Happy Moments bandwagon {Check it out and send some biashara our way :P}. It's been amazing so far walking couples through the planning journey. Seeing them finally at the altar exchanging vows, gives me grand satisfaction. Seeing as the wedding season has checked in and will be around till January, I feel it would only be right if I do a couple of posts on weddings, the do's, dont's and basically share some random nuggets. My first post on this comes up next week. Keep it here to find out what I will be talking about. In the meantime, let me leave this jam here to get you into the wedding p...

Friendship - Girlfriends

I woke up very grateful to God for the friends in my life and felt compelled to blog just a little reminder this beautiful morning - when along life's journey you chance upon the gift of friendship, do all you can to cherish it. How true the words of Hubert Humphrey are - "The greatest gift of life is friendship, and I have received it". For those of us blessed to have sisters, you know how exciting and annoying they can be right :-). You play together, pray together and generally get on each other's nerves but at the end of the day you have a bond that is stronger than all the fights & nasty arguments you may have. You are assured of their support and you can rest easy cause you know come rain, come shine they have your back. For those of us who were blessed with only brothers or are an only child, we get to form bonds with girl-friends and before we know it they become a huge & important part of our lives - more like sisters. Girlfriends are the sisters ...

September :-)

So here we are :-). September Baby. *Does A King Julian Jig* {In case you wanna join in and have no idea how it goes, indulge below :P}. As you get your groove on though, please remember we only have 3 more months to wrap up 2016 and so you best be on top of your game on whatever resolutions you made when the clock hit 0001Hrs 1st January 2016. Just in case you are like me & do not believe in making resolutions but having tiny doable goals, check if you have been able to achieve whatever you set out to achieve. If you haven't, get cracking 3 months is a damn long time to get stuff done a'ight! For some reason, Kirk Franklin's September is playing in my head so here goes. #ImOuttaHere :-).

Enjoy Your Seasons

"I can't wait to grow up" - always found myself screaming that statement anytime I felt I got unfair treatment from the adults. For some weird reason I always looked forward to growing up - didn't we all?? I was jealous of how the grown ups looked so put together, were enjoying life, calling all the shots & making all the rules :D. I wish someone had knocked some sense into my tiny head that being grown up is much tougher than the perceived 'glamor'. The only part of being grown up that I totally appreciate is the wisdom that came along - I have learnt to enjoy & maximize every season that comes along. Just as we have four different weather seasons, so do our lives have different seasons - most of the time they are as random as can be and may be more than four. I love the way Ecclesiastes 3:1 breaks the whole idea of seasons down - " There is a season (a time appointed) for everything and a time for every delight and event or purpose unde...

Downtime

Ever experienced a downtime? Well, that's the place I am currently at. It's a bitter sweet kinda feeling - I've got a long to-do-list & lots of pending work but unfortunately I just don't have the energy. My brain has revolted and decided to give itself a much needed break *Sigh*. A while back there was an ad running in the local TV stations, I can't remember what exactly they were advertising but a certain phrase stuck "the cow has refused"...that is where my brain is- it has completely refused LOL. #WhatToDo. I have slacked off on writing, can't believe I've clocked a month without posting #Shame!! So for now as I look for ways to jump start my system, how about we join Kermit in sipping our Green Tea and sing along to VeggieTales.

TBT - Yolanda Adams

This is a timeless track that blesses my heart time and time again. The lyrics resonate so well with a season I'm in right now. I'm Gonna Be Ready I say a prayer every night, whatever I do, I'll get it right With no regret, no guilt or shame this time, no not this time Once I surrender, I won't dare look back, cause if I do, I'll get off track Move ahead in faith, and patiently await your answer, what will it be Sight beyond what I see You know what's best for me Prepare my mind, prepare my heart For whatever comes, I'm gone' be ready Strength to pass any test I feel like I'm so blessed With you in control, I can't go wrong 'Cause I always know, I'm gonna be ready I was free to do, what I wanted to, lost everything, but I still had you You showed me your grace, now my life's renewed and I thank you, yes.. I thank You So I'll tell anyone who'll listen, I'll testify About how good you were to me, w...

Lessons For The Big 3's

Exiting the 20's and hitting the big 3's should be an exciting transition but for most of us {talking to the ladies here *wink*} it can be a cocktail of emotions.   When I turned 29, I craved for super powers to freeze time so I'd stick there for the rest of my existence or rapture would happen cause I honestly dreaded the big 30.  I lost sleep thinking how I wasn't ready to leave my 20's. Unmarried, no mini-mes running around, still building my career & a business making baby steps is definitely not how I envisioned I would get to my 30's. I spent so much time regretting the missed opportunities and wasted chances - wishing I could get a 2nd chance to get things rights. Throwing pity parties and feeling sorry for myself featured top on my list of things to do. Long story short, I staggered into my 30's intoxicated with self pity and full of regrets. I'd walk around like a Zombie blaming the universe for my "nasty luck" & felt lik...

Baby Shower & Other Short Stories

So I had the opportunity together with my business partner to organize and coordinate a Baby Shower for a soon to be mum who is also a good friend. Attending a baby shower as a guest is a totally different ball game from being the one in charge of decor and coordinating the photography so this was a lovely experience. A few photos from the day - mainly decor of which we chose to go with something simple engraved balloons & a banner. A few tips for anyone organizing a Baby Shower that you I found useful: Manage Your Expectations  Baby Showers are generally supposed to be a fun activity but for the mum to be, it may be a bit tiring especially if you hold the shower a few days shy of her EDD. She may not be as involved in the activities of the shower as you may want so be sure to cut her some slack.   Have A Program Treat the shower like any other formal event where you prepare a program and share it with the attendees before hand. This will e...

Made A Way - Travis Greene

Made a way Don't know how but you did it Made a way Standing here not knowing how we'll get through this test But holding onto faith you know best Nothing can catch you by surprise You've got this figured out and you're watching us now But when it looks as if we can't win You wrap us in your arm and step in And everything we need you supply You got this in control And now we know that You made a way When our backs were against the wall And it looked as if it was over You made a way And we're standing here Only because you made a way You made a way Now we're here Looking back on where we come from Because of you and nothing we've done To deserve the love and mercy you've shown But your grace was strong enough to pick us up And you made a way When our backs were against the wall And it looked as if it was over You made a way And we're standing here Only because you made a way [x2] You move mountains You...

Tuesday Inspiration

From when Barrack Obama was sworn into office as the 44th President of the United States of America, Michelle Obama has been a force to reckon with especially matters concerning Women Empowerment. Michelle's recent interview with Oprah Winfrey during the United States of Women Summit has some real nuggets that I hope you will love. Here are some pointers she gave that I identified with - I included some personal notes.   Know Yourself - I love the way Michelle describes getting to know yourself as a woman's first job in life. Trust me, discovering and defining who you are is a full time job. It takes a lot of hard work to fight off stereotypes that have for a long time described women. Discovering yourself is not a one off thing cause as time passes, you mature & grow through different experiences which may challenge and reshape your outlook on life. Take the time to know who you are as a woman - it will be slow, painful and at times the most difficult task you un...

#TBT - Guest Of The State

Once upon a time, I was a guest of the state - albeit for half an hour. It's an experience I wouldn't wish upon my worst of enemies :-). {P.S don't judge me, if it may not be as bad as others' experiences lol}  Kanjo pipos pounced on us on a lazy & sunny Friday afternoon while we were happily distributing brochures for the college I worked for as a Computer Lab Assistant in Westlands. It was during my initial months at the college & since I was pretty much still on probation, any extra duties done definitely earned me Bonga Points. So when my colleagues from Front Office floated the idea of tagging along for the brochure distribution I gladly obliged. Most Friday afternoons were not as busy in the Comp Lab, so I embraced the idea cause then I could kill two birds with one stone - earn bonga points and kill boredom LOL. We picked as many brochures as we could and off we went chatting animatedly as we smiled and gave them to passers by. Two of us were freshe...

#ManTalk

I love me a good read so when I got my hands on Steve Harvey's Straight Talk, No Chaser I couldn't put it down and I love the insights Harvey shares.   If you enjoyed reading Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man, then I assure you, you will love Straight Talk. Harvey gives us some awesome wisdom on the male species. I felt compelled to share some of the excerpts in this book that young men and women of this X/Y generation need to hear on matters marriage/love. I am a strong believer that God is raising Himself a remnant of young people who will choose to take a stand and declare that despite and in spite of all the negativity surrounding the institution, we will make it work. Since I'm still reading it, this will be an ongoing post - well at least till I get to the last page :-). Here goes my maiden attempt at #ManTalk with the help of Harvey of course. Enjoy. Learn How To Be A Man  because getting into marriage without truly discovering & embracing who you are as a...

#MidYearTings

Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Happy New Month :-). We've hit the Mid-Year mark, how awesome is that? *Doing A  Happy King Julian Dance*. This far Jehovah has been faithful.  Just a few more months and we bid 2016 kwaheri. How fast time flies, right!! If you haven't reviewed your New Year's resolutions to see if you are following them through, now would be a good time to do so. Review and make necessary adjustments and try break them into tiny doable chunks. Thing is, I personally do not believe in this hullabaloo of making New Year's resolutions.....I'd rather take one day at a time than waste precious time writing a long list of promises, do's, don'ts and whatever else resolutions entail. I prefer making practical & step by step achievable goals which I can review at the end of the day and make necessary adjustments when need be. So far, so good, I'm loving 2016 and embracing the true YOLO spirit.   How about I do a review of some of t...

Imela

#ThankfulFriday When was the last time you spent time in God's presence just giving thanks? Not making any demands but but just gratefully basking in His presence in awe telling Him how good He has been to you? It is easy to give thanks when circumstances are working in your favor and life is moving exactly the way you want it to. How about this beautiful Friday morning I challenge you to give thanks nevertheless; in spite & despite of what you are facing. Things may not be working out right, but I welcome you to lift up your hands and render your gratitude to the Most High in total surrender. #Imela 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 " Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus ". Ephesians 5:20 " Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ ". Psalms 95:2 " Let us come before Him with...

Tenda Wema

A couple of weeks ago I had an interesting eaves - dropping adventure in a Jav to tao. Btw...it's not that I intentionally eaves dropped, but it is virtually impossible to ignore "moto moto muhahe" when it is being discussed in high pitched voices in a quiet jav :P!! I kept wondering whether they were aware that everyone's attention was drawn to their discussions or if the muhahe was too juicy to care if it drew the curiosity of the rest of the passengers. When it got TMI, I quickly fished for my headphones, plugged them in and cranked the volume.  I have no intention of transcribing the muhahe here, so I'll just give a snippet of the rant-fest and why it birthed a blogpost. The ladies were ranting of how one of their pals was in a desperate situation and hounded them day & night to lend a helping hand and once they offered their help and she had stuff sorted out, they got kicked to the kerb. Seems the former damsel in distress burnt the bridge that got h...

The Wait

So I finally got around to reading The Wait by Hollywood's cutest couple Devon Franklin & Meagan Good {#CuteKidsAlert}. If you have not, kindly grab a copy and indulge...it's a very interesting & honestly raw read. As I read through the book, I kept thinking to myself - is waiting/celibacy before marriage over-rated?, is it even possible to wait?, why wait?, among other random thoughts that I felt I needed to blog about. So here we go.  Disclaimer : Whatever thoughts expressed herein are MY OWN personal opinions coupled with Bible Verses here & there and is no way an attempt to play Moral Police so let's keep our fingers off the trigger a'ight :-) . We are living in very perilous times, so many sexual innuendos around us - from billboards to TV commercials {we all remember that cooking oil ad, yeah *wink*}, magazine spreads and don't even get me started on the numerous soap operas that have over time become such a favorite of the local TV...
